So for my first post…I thought I would take a stab at looking how Brett Favre might be feeling after a tough home opener and impressive showing by his successor in Green Bay. Leading up to the NFL games this week, all the talk was about the Patriots’ Tom Brady being out for the season and Matt Cassel filling in the role as QB. Matt Cassel….a guy who hadn’t started a game since his senior year in high school football. This week, Cassel was going head to head against Brett Favre…another guy being watched by the football analysts…he’s old, he’s retired and threatened to retire multiple times and for this year is not playing on the beloved Green Bay Packers where he spent the bulk of his career…but I digress. This week, the Patriots were playing with their new inexperienced QB on the Jet’s home turf. Brett Favre has played against a first time starting quarterback five other times and has beat the opposition every time…unfortunately for Favre and the Jets…the streak came to an end today. Matt Cassel presented Favre with his first loss against a first time starter…not so sweet for Favre, especially since it was the Jets’ home opener.
In addition to his loss against the Jets…Brett Favre also has to start to wonder…did the Packers make the right decision by not picking him back up when he called off his retirement? The Packers decided to move forward with the future and start Aaron Rodgers, who has been impressive to say the least. This week, he had 328 passing yards and 3 touch downs….bringing the Packers to a 2-0 record so far.
So, it looks like this week didn’t go so well for Favre…I do hope things pick up a little for him (he’s on one of my fantasy teams)…we’ll see next week when all eyes are on him for Monday Night Football…
