I am your typical girly girl….I love romantic comedies, chick lit, shopping, getting together with my girlfriends….AND, I am married to the ultimate sports fan. If ESPN was the only channel available… life would be perfect for him.
For years, I have tried to resist the love of sports (with the exception of having a winning fantasy football team and tailgating for Eagles games)….I have gone to such extremes as putting the child lock on all of the sports channels so that for one night we didn’t have to watch SportsCenter or a baseball game. When attending sporting events with my husband, I would ask why the batter’s pants weren’t hemmed, or if we could leave a tied game early to beat the traffic, or if the point guard is married. At this point, you’re probably wondering what business I would have taking on writing a blog about sports?
Well… I noticed that most of my girlfriends, the ladies I work with at happy hour, or girls at a SuperBowl party all had the same attitude I did. We all enjoyed the social aspect of sporting events….but we didn’t need the full analysis, (the CLIF notes verison would do)… or we wanted to hear about the player’s lives, interesting backstory, or anything that we could relate to…so I decided that I would embrace the excitement around sports that my husband has…and help all of the other “social” sports fans out there get the quick and dirty information they need for the next happy hour, date or wherever they are headed….
Hopefully you enjoy, participate and come back regularly to get the latest information…off to watch another episode of PTI (Pardon the Interruption on ESPN)….

Ok, seriously Patti. This is so cute. I absolutely love this blog. Since I know you are looking for ideas, I’m going to take some more time to jot them down…but first wanted to say that this is AWESOME!
Patti,
This is a great blog. I am with you 100%. I am all for the Superbowl parties simply for the friends, food and fun. If they could reduce the games to those 5 key moments when everyone cheers then football wouldn’t be so hard to watch. As a football wife myself, I have tried to find ways to not watch games ALL day on Sat and ALL day on Sunday, plus Monday and Thursday. When I do find myself watching the games and not keeping occupied with other things around the house, the only comments that come out are things like “his butt looks big in those pants” and “I don’t think those colors work together.”
Any help you can provide to a Non-sports nut like myself will only help strengthen my relationship and thrill my husband.
I am really interested in some broad facts about this year’s teams. The comment about the Patriots QB not playing since High School is very helpful. Any other, tidbits or insider gossip on the main players would help me dearly.
I can’t wait for the next installment.
Love the website! Can’t lie, I made my husband watch Gossip Girl until 9:00 pm when the Eagles were allowed on….PS. What about some pictures of the hot Brady replacement?!?!?
I just want to congratulate you on this incredible sight. I have been married 27 years and have lived most of those years on various sporting fields (watching my 4 children play). If my child was sitting the bench, I was too busy talking to friends and not paying attention to the rules and plays. If I am not on the field sidelines, I am watching various games with my husband and children. It’s a shame this sight didn’t exsist 27 years ago. (maybe I would have been a little more educated on the games- or at least the social end of it).
I feel right at home reading about the social facts that you are writing on the players and primary facts on the game. Frankly, my friends and I usually discuss that and the commercials. Now I will have solid facts!
Patti,
I LOVE this blog. It’s hilarious! I can’t wait for your trip to WVU. Then you will have some VERY interesting things to write about after that shindig.
Patti,
This is such a great idea! Thanks for helping provide some insight on what often confuses me to no end! Will think of some thoughts but it looks like you have everything put together very nicely!
Love,
Megan
Okay- so this site is incredible!!! I loved the facts on the Ryder Cup. I happen to enjoy watching golf but did not know the facts that you mentioned. I even repeated some of these facts to a real golf enthusiast who was not only impressed but didn’t know everything that I now know!
I really look forward to reading this everyday. Way to go!
Patti,
Great idea for a website! I think both men and women will benefit from your insight. Since I personally know nothing about Grey’s Anatomy, People Magazine, and Fall Fashion Trends, it would be GREAT to have sports as a potential “common ground” topic of conversation. Now if you could somehow work the girls guide to “Caddyshack” movie references into this website I would be golden. (grin)
Patti…brilliant…I love it…here’s a couple of ideas for you 1) shopping…how about some links to sports apparel, what better way to serve your man a beer during game time (ha ha), than in a jersey…2)ex-coaches and what they’re doing now, like making beer commercials, 3) Joe Paterno – it’s essential to know him…more later
Patti-
I can’t tell you how much I love this site!! I’ve shared it with a few friends at work too and they love it. Greg is glad I can finally talk about sports with him, haha.
Hope to see you at the Burns Baby Shower!!

hi Patti!
just wanted to say I love your site! I was looking for “girls guide to brackets” to help me with my own piece for March Madness and stumbled across GirlOnSports and loved it!
I am a very reluctant sports fan. I would much rather be watching DWTS but I know my way around the sporting world! And I LOVE March Madness!
I have my own sports for girls site called Stiletto Sports and I’m always looking for writers to guest column/collaborate with! I would love to work with you if you are interested!
nice to ‘meet’ you!

This is a great blog. Thanks for doing it. If any of your readers are interested, could you possibly mention that SABR (the Society for American Baseball Research) is offering free downloads of the PDF of The Emerald Guide to Baseball 2009 at http://www.sabr.org? The Emerald Guide is reminiscent of the old Sporting News Guides and chronicles every game and statistic from the 2008 season. Downloading it for your husband is the equivalent of having him send you flowers.
