Now that the MLB Playoffs Have Started, I Only Have a Few Weeks Until They’re Over….

Hi Ladies –

For all of you out there that have minimal to no interest in baseball, there is good news and bad news.  The bad news is that since the playoffs are starting, we will hear alot about the sport…not the best of times.  The good news is that we only have a few more weeks until baseball goes on hiatus for 4-5 months….definitely a bright spot ahead!!!

So, I figure for the start of the playoffs, it would be helpful to outline what teams have made the playoffs…

National League (NL):

NL East: Philadelphia Phillies

NL Central: Chicago Cubs

NL West: LA Dodgers

NL Wildcard: Milwaukee Brewers

American League (AL):

AL East: Tampa Bay Rays

AL Central: Chicago White Sox (NOTE: The Chicago White Sox claimed their position on Tuesday night in a one game playoff against the Minnesota Twins…poor Twins couldn’t take the pressure)

AL West: LA Angels

AL WIldcard: Boston Red Sox

For the first round of the playoffs, a series consists of 5 games…whichever team get 3 wins first, wins the series and goes to the National League or American League Championship games.  In The second round of playoffs, the series consists of 7 games and the winner of each series (whoever gets to 4 wins first) goes to the World Series…also consisting of 7 games.

So for the first round this is who is playing who:

National League:

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Milwaukee Brewers

Chicago Cubs vs. LA Dodgers

American League:

Boston Redsox vs. LA Angels

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago White Sox

All of the games (except Tampa Bay/White Sox) start on Wednesday… I don’t plan on watching much of it since Dirty Sexy Money is back on…plus I am really into Lipstick Jungle…but at least I know the topline information in case it comes up in conversation.

OK, so that is the quick and dirty rundown of the playoffs ahead.  I surfed around to see if there was anything particularly cool/exciting about the 2008 playoffs…I couldn’t find much right away, however one cool thing that I observed is that this year, there is a chance that we could experience an “Intra city” world series…meaning the team from the American League and the Team from the National League are both from the same city…this could happen based on two scenarios:

  • NL Chicago Cubs vs. AL Chicago White Sox OR
  • NL LA Dodgers vs. AL LA Angels

The last time we had an intra city World Series was in 2000 when the New York Mets (NL) played the New York Yankees (AL).  The Yankees won the series 4-1.

Alright, I will be back tomorrow with some additional baseball news.  I am thinking about getting you the information you need for the baseball “awards”…most girls tend to like awards…my faves are the Oscars & the Emmy’s…so, think of it in that manner, but without all of the fashion and red carpet drama….
